WARNING TO SHAREHOLDERS
In recent years, many companies, including Travis Perkins, have become aware that their shareholders have received unsolicited phone calls or correspondence concerning investment matters. These are typically from overseas based ‘brokers’ who target UK shareholders, offering to sell them what often turn out to be worthless or high risk shares in US or UK investments. These operations are commonly known as ‘boiler rooms’. These ‘brokers’ can be very persistent and extremely persuasive and sometimes these callers imply that they represent Travis Perkins, but in fact they have no connection with the company and have no authority to claim or imply that they are. They may also ask for your email address or other personal information. You should not provide any such details as such approaches are invariably scams, with some ulterior motive. If you do receive an approach, we suggest that you ignore it or treat it with much caution – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! If the calls persist, hang up.
Shareholders are advised to be very wary of any unsolicited advice, offers to buy shares at a discount or offers of free company reports. If you receive any unsolicited investment advice:
- Make sure you get the correct name of the person and organisation.
- Check that they are properly authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) before getting involved by visiting www.fca.org.uk.
- Use the details on the FCA Register to contact the firm.
- Call the FCA Consumer Helpline on 0800 111 6768 if there are no contact details on the Register or you are told they are out of date.
If you deal with an unauthorised firm, you will not be eligible to receive payment under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. A list of unauthorised firms can be found at http://www.fca.org.uk/scams.
Details of any share dealing facilities that the company endorses will be included in company mailings. We would also suggest that you consult your own independent financial advisor before taking any action in relation to your shareholding in Travis Perkins.
